Adaptive Ski Week

44th  Annual Adaptive Learn to Ski/Snowboard Event

January 27–30, 2026 | Beech Mountain Resort, North Carolina

Join us for the oldest adaptive ski clinic in the country, celebrating over four decades of inclusive mountain experiences! This Learn to Ski & Snowboard event brings together expert instructors, dedicated volunteers, and participants from across the Southeast for four unforgettable days on the slopes.

Event History

This clinic began in 1981, founded by the Atlanta Chapter of what was then National Handicap Sports (NHS)—the predecessor of Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA) and today’s Move United.

For over 40 years, Beech Mountain Resort has graciously hosted the event, with continued support from the Costin family and a strong network of adaptive sports programs across the Southeast. Through generous sponsors and volunteers, this event has become a cornerstone of adaptive winter recreation—providing the instructors, equipment, and resources needed to open the slopes to everyone.

🎿 Instructional Team

Our instructional team represents some of the most experienced adaptive snow sports educators in the nation. All are PSIA Adaptive Certified Instructors, bringing over 80 years of combined experience in disciplines including:

  • Mono-ski, Bi-ski, and Twin-ski

  • 2-, 3-, and 4-Track Skiing

  • Slider and Visually Impaired Instruction

  • Adaptive Snowboarding

Instructors travel from across the U.S. to share their passion, expertise, and commitment to helping each participant discover the freedom of the mountain.

44rth  Annual Adaptive Learn to Ski/Snowboard Event

Coming January 2026

Event History:

This is the oldest adaptive ski clinic being the first of a group of national instructional clinics started by Move United which in its history was known as Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA) and National Handicap Sports (NHS).  The Atlanta Chapter of NHS assisted in developing the first clinic in 1981 and continued with it through 2004.  The clinic is now run as a cooperative effort amongst programs all interested in the benefits of sports for individuals with disabilities with Beech Mountain Resort continuing to be our host with help from the Costin family, to whom we are especially grateful.  The sponsors of this event donate to bring together the instructors, equipment, and resources necessary to teach skiing/snowboarding to individuals with disabilities in the southeast region.

Instructors:
The instructional team for the event is from all over the US and all PSIA Adaptive certified instructors with over 80 years of combined experience.  The instructional team includes individuals from around the USA.  The team is composed of experienced instructors in monoski, biski, twin ski, 2, 3, & 4 tracking, slider, visually impaired and snowboard instruction.
Participants:
The participants come from all over the southeast region.  Ages range from age 5 to 70+ with a variety of diagnoses including: brain and spinal injuries, amputees, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, developmental delays, spinal muscular atrophy, multiple sclerosis, visual impairment, and a whole host of other neurological and orthopedic challenges.  We are supportive of our military and work with veterans and active military in our region.  We try to focus on family and have families participate in the event as much as possible.
