We provide life changing, community based, adaptive adventure sports for people with physical disabilities in Knoxville and the surrounding communities.

Adaptive Rock Climbing

Indoor Rock Climbing: We host monthly adaptive climbing clinics for youth and adults with a wide range of physical disabilities. These sessions are open to all levels of climber, from those who have never climbed before, to experienced climbers looking for regular opportunities to climb with others.

We also offer the opportunity for motivated climbers to join the Catalyst Climbing Team, with the goal of attending paraclimbing competitions including USA Paraclimbing Nationals. 

Location: River Sports – 2918 Sutherland Ave. Participants should park behind the building and enter The Climbing Center through the back door. From Southern Ave., turn onto Rule Street, and then turn right onto Vanderventer Ave. There's an upper level gravel parking lot & a lower level paved lot.

Time: 1st Saturday of each month, 10am - 12pm

Volunteer: Interested in supporting our adaptive climbers? We require belay certified volunteers for this role. All climbing volunteers must complete our online adaptive climbing volunteer training before beginning.  If you are not belay certified, you will also need to complete the online training before taking our in-person training. Register below to get started.

NOTE: When registering as an athlete, please register the athlete only. Do not register family members or guests who may be accompanying you. 

Adaptive Mountain Biking

Experience the thrill of being in nature with our Adaptive Mountain Bike Program! Check out the next event below and register to ride or volunteer. If you would like reserve an adaptive mountain bike, select your preferred bike when you register. 


Location: Baker Creek Preserve, 1200 Tilson Street (under the bridge), Knoxville, TN 37920

Time: 3rd Saturday of each month, 10am - 12pm

We have a small fleet of adaptive bikes available to rent from the Knoxville Adventure Collective. To enquire about the available bikes and to set up a time to be fitted please contact us: knoxville@catalystsports.org.

Adaptive Kayaking

Come and enjoy kayaking at The Cove. We use adaptive equipment and trained volunteers to make kayaking accessible to everyone.

Location: The Cove at Concord Park, 11808 S Northshore Dr, Knoxville, TN 37922

Eligibility Criteria: Please ensure you meet all of the ACA Essential Eligibility Criteria prior to registering as a participant. 

Volunteer: Interested in supporting the adaptive kayaking program as a volunteer. The role includes transporting boats, helping to transfer participants, making adaptions to kayaks, and being on the water in a kayak as a support person. All aspects of this role are covered in our online training. You do not need to be an experienced kayaker or have your own boat but be willing and able to perform all aspects of the role.
