9/11 Memorial Climb

September 6th-8th            Linville Gorge, NC

Our origin began at the summit of the Grand Teton in Jackson, Wyoming, as Eric Gray, founder and executive director, led a group of veterans with service-related disabilities to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attack. Every year we commemorate this date with a climbing trip for veterans to come together, build community, and challenge themselves.
What: 2 night backcountry camping and outdoor rock climbing trip. This trip will require primitive camping, with no running water, electric hook-ups, or other amenities.

When:  September 6-8, 2024
Tentative Schedule:
- Friday September 6th: Arrive in the afternoon/evening, set up camp
- Saturday September 7th: Single pitch climbing (less than 50' tall)
- Sunday September 8th: Multi-pitch climb on Table Rock (appx. 300' tall)
Where: Linville Gorge Wilderness, North Carolina
Who: Veterans who want to work as a team and challenge themselves on a multi-pitch rock climb. Due to the rugged nature of the area, this trip is only suitable for veterans who are comfortable with a primitive camping experience in the wilderness. Additional details:
  • Camping and rock climbing equipment is available to borrow (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, climbing helmet, harness, and climbing shoes)
  • All meals are provided
  • The trail includes rugged terrain with hills, rocks, and roots. Participants must be able to hike  1 mile on uneven terrain.
  • Some rock climbing experience is required (indoor or outdoor.) Experienced guides will lead the group up the routes and provide all necessary safety equipment and instruction.
