Asheville’s First Adaptive Mountain Biking Weekend

[ASHEVILLE] – As spring hits Asheville, Catalyst Sports is hitting the trails. On May 15th and 16th Catalyst Sports invites the community to learn more about adaptive mountain bike riding. There are spaces for both participants and volunteers to sign up during this two-day event at the Guion Farms Parking Area in Hendersonville, NC. Catalyst Sports will have a variety of time slots for volunteers and participants to sign up and there will be two volunteers for each rider. Each ride will last an hour and a half. This time slot will include safety instruction, proper riding technique and proper fitting of the bike to the participant.   “This might be the first time someone with a disability will access nature off the pavement,” states Catalyst Sports Founder Eric Gray. “There are thousands of people with disabilities in the Western North Carolina area, and this weekend could be a chance for them to be active in nature for the first time since their disability. Through events like these people with disabilities are empowered to discover their strength and abilities and everyone discovers that we all play a part.” Catalyst Sports operates programming in 8 cities around the Southeast. Here in Asheville we run adaptive mountain biking and rock climbing programs for the entire Western North Carolina region. These programs are possible because of the support of local partners like The Bike Farm in Brevard, NC and The Riveter in Mills River, NC. These mountains are a huge adventure destination for many people from around the country and we want to make sure people with disabilities are able to enjoy this amazing place too! To participate, volunteer or learn more about Catalyst’s programs head to their website. (
