Great Smoky Mountains Adaptive Program Days

Adaptive Hiking

Join a ranger for an interpretive hike in the gorgeous Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Bring your own hiking chair or borrow one for the day (GRIT Freedom Chairs are available on a limited, first come first serve basis.) 

Sunday July 14th, 2024: Boat tour from Fontana Village Resort Marina, hike Hazel Creek Trail

Morning session: 10am-12pm

Afternoon session: 1pm-3pm

           

Saturday September 7th, 2024: Hike at Bradley Fork Trail (located in Smokemont Campground)

Morning session: 10am-12pm

Afternoon session: 1pm-3pm

           

Saturday October 5th, 2024: Hike at Middle Prong Trail

Morning session: 10am-12pm

Afternoon session: 1pm-3pm

Cost: Free

In order to maintain safety and provide a positive experience for all participants, we require hikers to meet the following Essential Eligibility Criteria:

  • Breathe independently (i.e., not require medical devices to sustain breathing)

  • Independently hold head upright without neck / head support

  • Manage personal care independently or with assistance of a companion

  • Manage personal mobility independently or with a reasonable amount of assistance

  • Follow instructions and effectively communicate independently or with assistance of a companion
