
Great Smoky Mountains Adaptive Program Days
Adaptive Hiking
Join a ranger for an interpretive hike in the gorgeous Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Bring your own hiking chair or borrow one for the day (GRIT Freedom Chairs are available on a limited, first come first serve basis.)
Saturday April 5th, 2025: Hike on the Middle Prong Trail
Morning session: 10am-12pm
Afternoon session: 1:30pm-3:30pm
Friday June 6th, 2025: Night Hike on the Little River Trail
Evening session: 6pm-10pm
Saturday October 25th, 2025: Hike on the Big Creek Trail (location subject to change)
Morning session: 10am-12pm
Afternoon session: 1:30pm-3:30pm
Cost: Free
In order to maintain safety and provide a positive experience for all participants, we require hikers to meet the following Essential Eligibility Criteria:

Breathe independently (i.e., not require medical devices to sustain breathing)

Independently hold head upright without neck / head support

Manage personal care independently or with assistance of a companion

Manage personal mobility independently or with assistance of a companion

Follow instructions and effectively communicate independently or with assistance of a companion

Volunteers are needed to support hikers on the trail!
All volunteers must attend training through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park or have previous experience volunteering with a Catalyst Sports program.
